Group Psychotherapy and Group AnalysisThe therapeutic group provides a safe, supportive and challenging environment in which one experiences, first hand, the complexities of being with and communicating in depth with other people. The group in its observer/participant role helps in understanding the part one plays and the part others play in setting up unhealthy relationships. It also helps to see how past relationships particularly within one's family affect present ones. The group becomes a place where one can try out more fulfilling ways of relating and allow oneself to experience real closeness with others. People are greatly influenced by their experience in the family, social and cultural groups in which they live, study and work. The rationale for therapy in a group is the recognition that problems which originate in a group can often best be treated in a group. The therapeutic group provides a nurturing
environment in which it becomes possible to reflect on difficulties
and recover from
traumatic life experiences. There is an opportunity to see oneself
through the eyes of others and as the group develops, self
understanding deepens and more effective ways of managing your life
are discovered. In the therapy group relationships develop in which
old patterns of relating are gradually given up and new ways of
interacting are discovered and practiced. Telephone: 0207 224 1783 |
